Call me paranoid, but when I cross a border in a rental car I always first make sure I give the car a really good once-over. There was one time I found some weed in the console between the seats and realized this could have caused me a ton of grief when crossing. So I give it a pretty thorough sweep to ensure I'm not inadvertently bringing something across the border that could land me in hot water.
