I’d suggest asking to fly SMF-SFO the night before. Or have them cut that segment and just drive one way. I wouldn’t recommend disturbing the other flights.

I’m Sacramento based and usually book INTL from SFO for precisely the reason the OP says - that short feeder flight isn’t rock solid reliable.
