At most airports, they're the same desks. And invoking the 1K desk is just a DYKWIA manoeuvre because 95% of people don't have that option.
I am of an age where I appreciate a check-in agent to assist me. As far as I an aware check-in agents are still working behind the counters where I am checking in.
I was not aware using a service that is made available to me as a Premier member is a DYKWIA moment.
I am bemused by your responses and feeling somewhat chastised by you for using services made available to me by United. In another DYKWIA moment when United offers me Plus Points upgrades I take them as well and these too are not available to 95% of people well with the extensions of status perhaps the percentage is lower but most of my friends who are infrequent travelers are not able to use PlusPoints. I realize this last comment is off topic of the original post but I felt a need to address the DYKWIA comment.
