Holiday Inn Peterborough - West
What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked
Super King Bed Standard With Free Minibar
I think that is the highest category so no upgrade possible.
How are the rooms?
Hotel appears to have been refurbished in the past. But look at the radiator in the photo - you can imagine this being a tired and dated typical UK Holiday Inn (which is what I was expecting, so was pleasantly surprised)
There was some nice artwork on the other wall (not in the photo) which gives it a "boutique" kind of feel, the corridors were also done up quite nicely.
Quite a small room and even smaller bathroom. Sink is very high while toilet is very low.
Bathroom completely floods when taking a shower but the grouting seems to limit the flood to only half of the tiles.
How is the exec. lounge?
None
What was good and what was bad?
Good
- hotel feels modern as per above
- free parking with no requirements at all. Not possible to access hotel by public transport and on foot would be very tricky.
- nice tranquil surroundings except when someone revs their engine on the slip road outside.
- on the ball with diamond benefits - they have preprinted vouchers for points / drink / breakfast
- breakfast was ok, most sausages were burnt. Poached eggs were dry and chewy, fried eggs swimming in oil, and not sure if scrambled were real. But better than HIX!
- for some reason it was possible to book this higher category room on points, so obviously I chose the free minibar as it cost the same as a double room. Minibar had crisps, chocolate, biscuits, 2x beer, 2x wine, fanta, diet coke and water. No bottle opener so couldn't drink the beer (well I could have got one from the bar)
Bad
- air con / heater did not work, when adjusting the settings it would turn on for 3 seconds and then switch off.
- walls are extremely thin so when neighbour turned on the TV I could hear everything. Fortunately he turned it off at 10pm.
- saw families bringing KFC into the restaurant for dinner.
- wifi is odd and have never experienced this in a hotel before - everything is filtered through an HTTP proxy, you can't use a VPN as it seems only port 80 is open, and you can't even access websites of VPNs or websites talking about VPNs as these are blocked by the proxy. However certain "data saving apps" on phone were able to bypass some of the restrictions, but not all.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
17000 points. Maybe.
