Do they do standby, or will I just travel on whichever flight has confirmable space? Also, if I have to wait longer than for the next flight, do they issue any kind of food vouchers to rescue me from the Crown Lounge grub? For sure status will help in the rebooking process. They may put you in standby and confirm only in the very last moment.
Food vouchers - when I have been in a similar situation I did not bother but you may try.
Regarding the bags, I had a bad experience 15y ago going to USA but in general positive ones.
