I don't think anyone is taking offence here, but trying to tell you that your expectations are not reasonable as regards the U.K. In much the same way as I think that the tipping culture in the USA is incredibly stupid, but it is not reasonable for me to expect anything different when I am there, and there's precious little point in complaining about it.
