I've had issues recently with the SQ and UA websites showing availability but when it comes to book I couldn't get UA to ticket it.

It might be worth a search on the Virgin Australia flight to see if the SQ flight is actually showing award space as there seems to be a bit of phantom award space to/from Australia right now.
