I’m all for OUTDOOR walking, jogging and running (vice tunnels or treadmills), I invariably walk from T4 or T7 to and from the Hyatt Regency LAX, but in this case I have to vote with the naysayers.

Agree, tunneling is likely faster and 2nd TSA experience (even with PreCheck and/or Clear) is clearly something to be avoided. Excellent recent example albeit from a different airport. JFK, 2-3 weeks ago, long international flight on AA from T8, friend flying same itinerary departing and arriving an hour later on Delta from T4. Arrive 3-4 hours prior to departure, check bag at T8, friend delayed. Go through PreCheck at T8 in less than 5 minutes, spend 20 minutes in Admiral’s Club, then AirTrain to T4. Get through Clear/PreCheck in less than 5 minutes, meet friend in Centurion Lounge for 30 minutes, AirTrain back to T8. PreCheck now unexpectedly closed due to staffing issues, long line with minimal “head of the line” privileges for PreCheckers,
40 minutes
to get through.
The “security theater” opinion/attitude, knowledge that TSA screeners have minimal training and have had many problems, and general lack of respect for the TSA screening process add to the desire to minimize TSA experiences. Throw in the “occasional” random secondary screening for PreCheckers (with its attendant occasional interminable wait for a gender appropriate or neutral “assist” and/or carry-on bag manual check and/or (re)scan) and a second TSA interaction is almost on par with gouging out one’s own eyeballs with a hot fire-poker

Excellent points. And with tunneling it can feel a little bit like The Great Escape film which is quite appropriate for departing LA or NYC
