JL33 will allow for a connection from JL5, but still a quite long layover. Problem might be that JL33 only flies Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, so only works if you arrive in Tokyo on Sunday, Wednesday, or Friday. Alternatively it will be the long layover for JL31 the next day. They might already have set you for that?
Trick seems to be to call right when the call centre opens. Alternatively if you can do VOIP to Japan, call the Japan English line.
Thanks! It's not until mid-December so I'm not too overly anxious right now and with the reopening of Japan that could potentially push for an increase in frequency, I'll give them a bit more time. Reopening of Japan also means long layovers are uhhh a little less unappealing too. (Side note: if JL does not restore frequency, would they insist on JL metal on a different day or is there any chance of asking for an alternative OW itinerary to get me to BKK on the original date i.e. on QR?)
I don't know what they have/don't think they have anything set me for since when I go to the JAL website to look at my reservation it just has the red error message saying that the reservation cannot be viewed due to schedule change and there was not a new one to accept/decline.
