* Please also limit your response to three (3) guesses per day per quiz item. This will avoid a "shotgun" approach and I believe will also encourage others to participate. So, for example, if you cannot correctly guess the answer to a specific quiz item following three attempts in any given day, you can then try again the next day. Please also know I'm currently engaged in not only an aviation consulting project at the present time but also a major property improvement project as well. So this will help me concerning the current constraints on my time.

3. Time to attend the annual Polar Bear Festival in exotic Churchill located on the shores of Hudson Bay in Canada! It's 1964 and you are in New York City. You're surprised to find you will only need to make one connection in order to travel from NYC to Churchill with two different airlines being involved with your itinerary. Your first flight is nonstop and operates daily. Your second flight only operates one day per week and makes two stops en route. One of these stops is a very obscure location which no longer has air service. So you will not need to provide this stop with your answer....but you will need to name the other stop made by the second flight. Identify both airlines, the airport you will depart from in the New York City area, the airport where you will make your connection, one of the two stops made by the connecting flight and the different aircraft types operated by each air carrier, both of which had one thing in common. ANSWERED
5. It's 1967 and you are in Memphis. You need to travel to Mexico City for a meeting but cannot depart until later in the afternoon. Fortunately, you've found an itinerary involving two airlines operating different equipment types which will enable you to depart MEM just before 5:00 pm and then arrive into MEX just before midnight. Your first flight will be a daily nonstop and your second flight will make two stops en route with this service operating five days a week . Identify both airlines, the connecting airport, the two stops made by the second flight and the different aircraft types. American operated the first flight.....but not with a 727-200 or 707. The connection was made at DAL. The second flight wasn't operated by Braniff International or Trans-Texas (TTa) and the L-188 Electra or DC-9-10 were not operated on either flight. The second flight did make a stop at SAT....but it did not stop at MTY or AUS. Hint: the different aircraft types featured jet engines made by the same manufacturer although the engines were different models.

8. Also in 1970, this airline was only operating three departures a week from Miami, all nonstop flights to just one destination which was located on an island. The same aircraft type was operated on these flights and it was a mainline jet. Identify the airline, the destination and the aircraft type. It wasn't BOAC, Air France, Caribair or Cayman Airways, the destination wasn't LHR, PAP, MBJ, SDQ, NAS or GCM, and the equipment wasn't a 707, Caravelle, DC-9-30 or BAC One-Eleven. Hint: the island airport in question is located in a region on this side of the Atlantic and was an international destination served from MIA. And additional info concerning this quiz item can be found in post # 26541.

Meantime, we are intently watching a developing tropical weather system down in the southern Caribbean Sea that is forecast to possibly move into the Gulf of Mexico by next week, perhaps as a major hurricane. Computer forecast models suggest this system may move toward the Gulf Coast of Florida but of course it's still too early to predict just where it will track. We shall see....
And Bermuda is now under a hurricane warning as another tropical weather system, Hurricane Fiona, is now heading toward the island. Fiona is currently a very powerful Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 130 mph. This system may eventually impact Nova Scotia and/or New Foundland in the Canadian Maritimes as an extratropical cyclone with winds forecast to be over 100 mph when it makes landfall in that part of the world.
It's that time of year, weather-wise, in the northern hemisphere, folks....
