Hilton Evian
Here for 4 nights on a paid stay as a Diamond. This is written after the second night.
We have stayed at most of the Hiltons in Europe and wanted to try Evian. We had a cheap flight into Zurich and the Hilton Evian was nicely priced at about 130 euro/ night for the base king room. We got a Swiss Rail day saver pass for 52 euro. This covered the no connection train from ZRH to Lausanne, the Lausanne metro, and the ferry across Lake Geneva. We landed at 7:30am and were at the hotel at noon.
We had been upgraded on the app 3 days before from the base room to a Junior Suite. Excellent. Upon check in, we were further upgraded to the (only?) King Executive Suite. The floorplan maps only show one in the main building. …and this was at noon! The way the receptionist talked, it appeared that she thought we had booked a Junior Suite.
The room was wonderful. Huge, two real rooms, bath and a half, 12’ by 30’ balcony looking straight at the lake from the 6th floor. The room was very nice and the view was the best we have ever had at a Hilton. The room as mentioned up thread was worn, but comfortable. It was right next door to the Executive lounge.
This is where the really good turns into not so good. The Executive lounge was moved at least this Monday thru Thursday to a side area/room of the first floor bar. The area is not good. In two nights, no staff have been dedicated to the area. Little is put out. Wine was good. The hard alcohol was basic and sad, often without appropriate mixers. There was no ice other than that cooling the wine. Food was salad and bad soup. There was also bread and cheese. There were 2 bottles of 0% alcohol beer and no other. There was one bottle of tonic water and one Sprite. There were 4 bottles of Coke. We will not bother going down tonight. We will take a look on Friday night when they are back in the 6th floor area.
The breakfast buffet was only adequate. Staff, tho, were very helpful.
The town of Evian is not much. Only a few places to eat. There is a grocery store about 3 blocks away. There is no fast, casual food nearby. The lake front walking path is very, very pretty, tho. Lots of flowers and plants.
The room comes with Spa access. It is hard to know what this means. The Spa area seems to be a typical high end hotel spa.
For a change in recent hotel stays, there were many staff members. All very friendly and very professional. Housekeeping actually happened daily without asking.
In sum, the room and view were great. The lounge was bad. The town is not easy living. Had we not gotten such a great room, it mostly all would have been a bad time. We will probably not be back.
