My dad and I have an award ticket booked this December that has had several schedule changes. Our return trip now gets in about 3 hours later than originally booked and has a 6 hour layover. There aren't any other viable options for the return (only other options are later with an overnight layover), so we were wondering how flexible/friendly AA is for changing the departure city for the return within our 'free schedule change.' Delta has let me do it, but with no status on AA, I'm guessing I'll be out of luck. Would it just depend if there is award space? Whether it's reasonably close? Only if it's on AA metal? We're OK leaving it as is if we must, but it'll just be a huge PITA. Just trying to see how to phrase my request when I call.
