Agree it's a frustrating experience & alarming for someone new to BA but it's been like this at most smaller Euro outstations for as long as I can remember, check in won't close with people in the queue. Best to just rock up late
All of this, especially the bolded part. This seems to be a feature of premium passenger queues the world over. I guess these pax are just higher maintenance as a group.
Getting in line early gets you nothing if everyone else is doing the same thing. I don't think I've ever checked in for a BA flight at a European outstation more than 90 minutes in advance. These include LIN, MXP, FCO, LED, WAW, OSL, ARN.
