As you have not been refunded the fare difference you are still legally entitled to seating in your paid cabin.

I would escalated to a supervisor. If they ask you for more money this is called a post-purchase fare increase. You might have to pay what they are asking and do a chargeback as you have already paid for the product.

I went through this with DL twenty years ago out of Montreal. I had a first/business ticket to Europe. The YUL-ATL aircraft was switched to all-economy then went back to two classes. They refused to move me back. At the airport they did it for $ 300. I paid and did a chargeback as what DL was unlawful in my province. They never contested.
that’s helpful. I’m assuming since I never got a receipt either, that’s further proof they never refunded me the fare difference (in this case the initial agent messed up in not refunding me immediately and instead saying to “wait and see”)
