It's going to take a couple of years to get the designs for new notes and coins done and then there'll be a gradual phasing in / out of new for old.
If the process in the UK is anything like in the US (hopefully it's not), it could take up to a decade, partially due to all the security/anti-counterfeiting features required.

If you really have an Edward VIII coin, that's likely worth a decent sum. I was under the impression that large scale striking of coins with his image wasn't scheduled to start until after he abdicated, and that most of what they had struck was destroyed after he did.
