You (we all) should question the bill when checking out of the hotel and signing the bill. I would show the Amex Plat FHR benefit on my phone to the clerk, and threaten to dispute the charge with Amex. We should not allow this behavior from the hotel.
I sort of struggled to spend the full €85 anyway (and I skipped breakfast the last morning...), or else I would have either complained at the hotel or to Amex. The benefits letter at check-in did note the €85.
