I could understand it being G if it is delta marketed, but then you should earn per DL which you get credit for G. May be a mistake in DL's system and you just have to call and ask them to fix it.

Yes, this is what I think happened. I did check my LHR-ATL boarding pass and it did have the Delta flight number on it, so I'm not sure how or when it happened.
