Not in BA, but being nice to a Gate agent and volunteering to get bumped on a very busy flight out of Miami helped me get an F seat on MIA-JFK on AA a few months ago. I was confused as to how a "fully booked" flight had an empty seat in F, but didnt worry about it much.
