It's going to take a couple of years to get the designs for new notes and coins done and then there'll be a gradual phasing in / out of new for old. There are people from back in the pounds, shillings and pence era who remember coinage with three different monarchs on them. I can see us co-existing with two monarchs for quite some time.
I probably still have an Edward VIII coin somewhere.
I almost was pretty sure that it was the UK where I was first hit by old coinage no longer being valid for use for street transactions, but it wasn't with an Edward VIII coin. Then I thought about it again and I'm sure it was a former British colony.
