I had a recent 2 night stay a couple of weeks back for the US Open and echo a lot of the same comments that were noted above. Upon arrival on the top floor to check-in with all of our bags, we were welcomed with a "are you here to check-in for the hotel or for dinner?" I thought our multiple suitcases may have been a hint! We quickly checked in and received the base king room and was informed that breakfast was served in the lounge. Given this was a Saturday night check-in, this proved to be incorrect for the Sunday breakfast when we found a near empty lounge with no food, apart from the normal snacks.
Our room was fine. I didn't have as much of an issue as some of the other posters with the odd bathroom. My main issue was the lack of space around the sink. The space surrounding the sink was all slanted which was odd. The shower had solid pressure. The whole elevator system was rather odd as previously mentioned but so long as you remember you have to go to the top floor and change elevators to either go to your room or go down to exit the hotel, it wasn't that big a deal.
After the lack of breakfast on the Sunday, we received a continental breakfast voucher for the restaurant and sat in line for 20 minutes and gave up despite the dining area being less than half full. Some folks already sitting down made it loud and clear to the people that were waiting in line to steer clear as they had been waiting 45 minutes for their breakfast already. We did have dinner there on the Monday and found the food to be very good. Service was a bit hit and miss in the restaurant, but I will give them a pass given they had just recently opened. The rooftop patio is not yet open for drink/food service yet you can bring drinks from the bar out there. There is a great view and you are directly underneath the departure path of all the planes from LGA. Once fully operational, the rooftop should be a big asset to the hotel.
As for the club lounge, it was an epic fail. The first morning, there was no coffee (the Starbucks machine appears to be already broken) and the alternative pot of coffee was empty. No employees were around to ask for anything further. The second morning, there were pancakes, sausages, inedible potatoes, but oddly enough no eggs. There was no cream for the coffee. A request for some cream went unfilled after 30 minutes. Garbage was overflowing. No bottles of water to be found. I finally gave up on the coffee so went down to the front desk and told them about the coffee situation so they got me one from the restaurant and then tried to charge me $6 for it which clearly wasn't going to happen.
The location is a plus for anyone headed to the US Open which is around a 25 min walk. Given the vast majority of guests seemed to be headed to the tennis, one would have thought they could have had some premade cards with directions made up, but that apparently had not been contemplated. Obviously walking distance to Citi Field as well. Overall, a decent spot if headed to the tennis if staying on points, but paying the $7-800 rates that were being charged, there definitely has to be better value out there.
