Forget everything about card upgrades until you work out how much you expect to fly over the next couple of years. There’s really little point in reaching a status level if you can’t maintain it, especially given the current glut of Medallion members with rollovers in play. If you think you can earn 25K, 50K or 75K MQMs in a year, then it makes sense to shoot for the appropriate Medallion level, if you aren’t going to make it, just spend your money on a decent seat when you do fly.
Figure out what you can sensibly qualify for and stick to that. Airlines stay in business through people chasing status.
