On the subject of insurance coverage, it’s important to note that most people think either their personal car insurance or their credit cards' secondary coverage will satisfy any coverage they need in lieu of the agency's LDW coverage. However, neither of those sources of coverage will pay out for Loss of Use and most people aren’t even aware of Loss of Use. Loss of Use is the amount of revenue the car rental agency loses as a result of the vehicle being in the shop to be repaired for the damages of your accident. Say that amounts to $1,200. The car rental company will bill you separately for the Loss of Use ($1,200). I know this because one of our executives experienced it and we had to completely re-evaluate the corporate policies on car rentals when we learned that his personal auto insurance and the secondary insurance coverage benefit offered through his AMEX Platinum didn’t cover Loss of Use.
I’m not a CSR holder so I can’t speak on that card, but I can say that for AMEX Platinum to cover LDW
AND Loss of Use, the card holder has to be signed up for their PREMIUM CAR RENTAL INSURANCE PLAN:

The coverage description below shows Loss of Use coverage:

There is no charge to sign up for this program. Anytime a car rental charge appears on your AMEX credit card, you receive a separate charge (currently $24.99) for the rental, no matter how long the rental is (up to a certain amount, like 28 or 30 days) and are covered for primary LDW and Loss of Use coverage for the duration of your rental. This is significantly less expensive than paying the car rental’s $29.99 PER DAY charge for LDW. So, in the end, for a 14 day rental, you'd simply pay a one-time fee of $24.99 through AMEX'S Premium Car Rental Program instead of the $419.86 you'd have to pay to the car rental agency for 14 x $29.99. You are saving a ton of money and peace of mind by having it. I highly recommend it.
