I'm going through the same process and in pretty desperate need of a new carry-on roller; some of my thoughts thus far during my process of deciding on the right one.

1. Tumi - pretty nice but these days just appears over priced for what one's getting. I mean, at their asking price, there are better options, such as Rimowa. However, what I do like about them is the overall design, front pocket compartment (always have a laptop with me) and expandable material. But, again, the price is bit of a deal breaker.

2. Rimowa - probably best in class especially the classic design. For the asking price, it's a better value overall than Tumi by a considerable margin, in my view. Downside is the model I prefer--the classic in silver--doesn't have a front pocket for a laptop, which necessitates some kind of compromise; either, attach on top of the handle a smaller laptop bag or open to remove when necessary--both I find unappealing.

3. Years ago before the pandemic, there was a carry on I found in Tokyo--some kind of mall near Shinjuku--that I thought was ideal. It was priced very reasonably, front pocket and I like the design and quality. I've forgotten the name, but, if I recall, it begins with a P...something. Anyway, I should have bought it when I was there, but I was attached to my old roller before I had broken it.

At this point, I'm leaning towards Rimowa. It isn't perfect but between my Saks GCs and perhaps buying it abroad given the dollars historical once in a lifetime strength may prove to be one of those great deals that come along once in a very long time. It's only because I just have such an aversion to external little bags and having to open the thing up to remove the laptop for security that I haven't bought it yet.
