i booked an award ticket for my wife and myself to go to europe from the US on american airlines.

however, there is a leg on our trip that is on british airways. the american rep assigned seats for us on the american portions of the flight but told me to call british airways to get seats on their portions.

we are flying from CDG-LHR on oct 22 flt 309, LHR-FCO on oct 22 flt 556 and then later on oct 28 venice-gatwick on flt 2581.

i just want to get 2 seats together (no need to do the window/aisle thing for 2 ppl and then move over to the middle - i always felt that was a selfish thing to do) but when i called, the rep said that she couldn't assign seats. i just want any two seats on the plane together.

i checked on seatmap.com but it looks like it doesn't work for my flights.

i know that BA only assigns a certain percentage of their flights' seats early. does it mean that they filled up this quota already? is my only option to wait until 24 hours before the flight leaves and then call or go online to get seats?
