It's probably a good idea first to check award availability at aa.com. Normally, only awards at the MileSAAver level are made available to partners. (Web Special and AAnytime awards are not.)

The MileSAAver redemption rate between the U.S. and Canada in Economy is 12,500 miles, except for nonstop AA flights of no more than 500 miles (think ORD-YYZ, LGA-YYZ, etc.), which are priced at 7,500 miles.

If flights are available through Asia Miles, you will of course pay the Asia Miles redemption rate, not AA's.
