unfortunately because you start at IAD, you cannot do online checkin with ANA
don't remember if you can access NH seats when doing online-checkin for UA, but you definitely can select NH seats at the UA check-in kiosk
you can set NH seats beforehand by using the confirmation number for the NH side of things and then inputting that into the NH site; it should be available in the reservation on the UA website.
