just FYI,

to SIN, UA has offered separate Basic-economy fare (all UA metal via SFO), versus the "regular" economy fare (CONUSA-NRT as UA/NH, and NRT-SIN as NH)

to KUL, UA has to go via NH JV so no basic economy (unless their UA-SQ JV gets better).
your $50 might be just due to taxes (unlikely) / one fare class difference on one leg

you should double check if ORD-NRT is flying NH 77W 212-seat 2-4-3 (a huge plus for couples/families, and it's 34" pitch + 16.5 width) and if it's still open enough for you to select seats (NH only offers free seat selection at the back, middle/front blocked off for cheap Y tickets until checkin). these seats don't really recline though

minus for anyone with UA status of course (who has access to E+/PP upgrades and seat selection when flying UA metal and would rather fly UA metal)
