I have Global Entry so the only thing it asks me is if I have purchased over $10,000 worth of items or have that amount in cash. I select "no" and then it prints a ticket and tells me to proceed. You only have to declare alcohol if it's over the 5L per person limit, but even when I have had more than this, they just wave me through.
I'm sure you likely haven't, but others have. I am stuck at the 1.43?L limit as I generally buy the hard stuff as gifts. I've gone up to 2L or maybe a bit more than that. I've declared it and they let me through. But as I said, I've seen people who don't declare stuff and it suddenly becomes a hassle to travel. Not sure how often the "express" routes get audited, but that's a different story.
