I always used to check bags for any trip longer than 1-2 nights, but because of the perpetual luggage chaos at LHR I have learnt to never check bags on BA in the last twelve months and I assume many others are behaving similarly. I don't use a rollaboard but I do very much pack my holdall completely full these days.
If LHR worked like ZRH, I for one would check luggage far more often. Right now I will strain every sinew never to check anything.
