In the past 5 months, I have flown RSW-SNA, SNA-ANC, ANC-BET 2x, and ANC-OME 2x. The orange priority tags I get as MVPG have never resulted in bags delivered “first” on the carousel. Bags were, in fact, usually towards the end of bags appearing on the carousel. Clearly, not the way this perk should work.
Also have had an issue with checking 3 bags on AS flights within Alaska. I travel to villages from hubs like BET and OME for trips of 4-5 days. Even as an MVPG, AS would not guarantee that all 3 bags would be loaded on my flight. So, which bag do I let them tag for standby- my essential work supplies, food, or personal gear (sleeping bag, clothes, etc.)? Standby really doesn’t work when you’re flying to a village on a regional carrier before the next AS flight arrives. I know this because a coworker spent 5 days in the same clothes, and was without her sleeping bag and other personal gear! i know that weight and balance is an issue, but could AS prioritize 3rd bags for those traveling onward please?
