On one ticket DL by policy allows you to short check if connection is at least 6 hours. They require it (between DL operated flights) if connection is at least 12 hours.

If under 6 hours, they don't have to do it.

Regardless, if checked bag fees apply, you will pay twice if short checked. (Agent may waive, but not required)
