Anecdotally this happened one previous time earlier in the summer to us as well, but I figured I just did something wrong when checking in.
Would each of us checking in separately work or still no difference?
Yeah, it's broken. I've confronted this now several times and it relegates your companion to where they would be on the list based on their status, which I'm guessing for your spouse is no status.
I have yet to try this, but my plan is next time not to check in until the airport, which will leave us paired on the list in our correct places as long as possible, and then may be fixable at the airport once we check in and spouse is relegated.
