I bought one similar to this a couple of years ago. It seemed to be a little finicky to use. You would have to be careful to fold balance everything across the different shelves in order to make it go in evenly. You will also have wasted room here and there that is difficult to reach. Plus you have the extra weight. That said, I am a (mostly) one-bagger and like to only bring what I need. I suspect many people with hard sided bags don't always fill to capacity and have air pockets anyway.

I could see this being helpful where you get to hotel, pull this out, hang it up and put your bag out of the way (i.e. very helpful if you have multiple bags for multiple people). It's affordable enough where I would say get one and try it out for your packing style.
