I will let her know to play the luggage lottery. I think the trick is to go up and look like she knows what she is doing and hope they don't mention it. If they do, she can always blame the "travel agent told her it was OK" and in the worst case scenario they will make her pay. My experience has been pretty good in SYD and the UA agents usually just want to do the check in and get on with their day.
