Never had this happen (didn't even know about this limit), but I suspect it depends on if you declare it. If you do, it'll either be confiscated and/or you'll be fined. If you don't declare it and get caught, you will be fined and possibly be a guest of the big house. If you don't declare and aren't caught, then congrats... But I would not recommend you base your decision on luck. If you find yourself enjoying that strength and brand of rum, I'd make a note and approach your nearest liquor store and encourage them to get it for you. YMMV on a whole range of factors.
