50K seems very generous considering they offered you a reroute on the overwater segment (still in D1) which you accepted.

if the HND-SEA flight wasn't operating and you had no option but to take a downgrade on 296, then you'd be due a fare reduction certainly. any options to STL on DL metal now that you are at the connection point?
