Is knowing the operating aircraft in advance a new 'thing'?

Flying tonight to Nice, and have had 12 CheckMyTrip notifications today about our schedule changing (gradually delayed, significantly delayed, on time, then delayed again).

It brought me to checking the flight details on FR24 and noticing that they seem to have (or assume) details about the operating aircraft, which I don't think I've seen before through their platform?

Obviously BA know which aircraft they plan to fly us with later, but is it a new feature that BA are publishing? More to the point is it reliable / accurate? (Obviously it can still change but the closer it gets to departure I'm guessing the more likely it is to stick). I'm mainly keen to track it inbound to see which gate we're likely leaving from

(We're on 352 tonight, apparently our assigned aircraft is in BLQ at the moment and estimated to leave there in about a half an hour, it got in about 15 mins ago)
