Have to echo what Mr. BoH and Pingtung have mentioned. My wife and I stayed for five nights during the US Open (we normally stay at the Sheraton) and had a very similar experience. Really bizarre room setup that is hard to figure out who their target audience is combined with byzantine elevators to get to your room and super friendly concierge lounge staff. Some additional items:

* There is almost zero storage for clothes. My wife and I basically lived out of our suitcases which sat on the floor. Tiny "closet" hung some items but no place to really keep two suitcases and two backpacks other than the floor.
* The "open bathroom" concept is very odd with a burlap type curtain between the main sleeping area and the bathroom. As mentioned, the ability to open the toilet room door would be very hard for anyone with arthritis or who can't grip small objects.
* Don't expect to be comfortable doing work unless you like working from bed or on a chaise lounge with no real back and uncomfortable pillows. Definitely not a business hotel.
* Shower water pressure and temperature were great. Very nice shower.
* Elevators have been discussed but what is even more odd is the lack of signage. It's one thing for the elevators to be a confusing experience. But why they haven't displayed signage to explain it is beyond me. And I discussed this with the front desk staff and was met with polite indifference.
* Shuttle to airport (LGA) is once an hour starting at 7 AM. Very small shuttle and make sure to reserve your time the night before. No shuttle to/from US Open (both Sheraton and Hyatt have this). I asked about a US Open shuttle and was told "no". Not even a "we are looking into it".
* Window that opens was a nice, positive surprise. I love fresh air in hotels and so few have windows that open. This was definitely a plus.

Overall, would not go out of my way to stay here again for US Open. Definitely prefer that Sheraton and Hyatt Place. Not sure if this will improve over time but it was a true "meh" experience with more negatives than positives at the end of the day.
