We arrived at LAX on AC and headed to the Star Alliance Lounge. We'd noticed on departure from Canada that we only received 1 boarding pass at the automated check in, which confused the Concierge at the Lounge. She then summoned someone from ANA to come up and chat with us to find out what the issue was - and of course it was because of the Visa we'd been issued for entry. Once the ANA Attendant got all the information, (she needed to see our MySOS, and she took some photos of our visas from the website) she was able to print off some copies of boarding passes for us, and then brought them to us directly at the lounge. There was no further request to view the information at check-in.
On the flight, you're still given the same documents to fill out as you normally are when entering Japan, IYKYK - but if not you can google them for an idea of what they ask. When we arrived at Haneda, my anxiety was in high gear. You never know, right? So the staff first had to allow the quarantine officer on the plane. Then, they allowed those with connecting flights to disembark first to head to their gates. Then we were allowed to exit, and as soon as we stepped off, they began asking us to have our MySOS ready to show to the staff. Once you show them your screen (ours had both turned blue while we were in LAX, indicating we were proven to be 3x vaccinated, and wouldn't need a PCR), they hand you a big blue card, and you are ushered along the path directly to the staff who then handle your phone to review and approve your MySOS. Once that process is completed, you go to the Immigration desk where a staff member then takes your passport and scans it. They spent more time clicking around in the computer than usual, so I assume they were confirming our visas had been issued and approved by JGA. Once that was complete, we were free to collect our luggage, (which was quickly sniffed over by the cutest Covid-detecting pupper!) and then proceed to Customs for the final "Do you have anything to declare?" Discussion. Once completed, we were free to go
Congrats! Was that really a covid sniffing dog? Only reason I ask is because I have been following that story for a while and thought that only some airports in Europe used them.
