I didnt mean security at the gate, I meant physicaly around the aircraft stand... i.e. baggage handlers, caterers and everything being put on the aircraft having a perimeter barrier and being screened.

As for politics, of course it wont stop a random loony wanting to bring down an aircraft but I propose that a political solution in the Middle East and a change in direction on foreign policy from the US will reduce the risk to the average traveller by more than any airport security procedures...
