I looked into this at the end of July, hoping to earn AS EQM flying in J on AA widebodies.

I found some decent international fares with availability would confirm into J on AA.

The issue I kept running into was the AA fare classes would only earn 25% or 50% AS EQM. The best I could find was 75% AS EQM on DFW-HI widebody upgradeable to AA J, which was still not worth it for me.

It may be better now, but pay attention to the AA fare classes and what they earn with AS.
