i was hoping someone could give me some advice.
We are booked to fly with Finnair in April 23 from Edinburgh via Helsinki to Bangkok in Business Class. Flight left Edinburgh at 10am ish and the layover was only a couple of hours.
I received an email from Finnair saying the flights had changed and it would now be departing at 18.00pm the day before but now meant we would be in Helsinki from 22.35pm, with the flight to Bangkok departing at 13.45pm the following day.
I have tried repeatedly to speak to them on ‘Chat’ but it just says they are busy.
Now we have a 15 hour layover, are we able to leave the airport? (British passport holders), what will happen with our bags? as they were checked straight through to BKK the last time we flew this route, will Finnair pay for a hotel?(probably wishful thinking).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much.
I've just got the same email with my flights MAN-HEL-BKK. 15 Hr Layover instead of 2. Not sure about the hotel in HEL, not sure where we stand on that one. I will certainly look into this. Personally, I prefer this new itinerary to the original 10AM from MAN. I planned to leave home the night before anyway and stay at a hotel in Manchester. A night in Helsinki would work better for me.
One other advantage of the long layover is that there is no chance of missing the connection. Due to the terrible state of MAN at the moment, the chance of missing the connection was high, as all FINNAIR flights seem to leave MAN very late every day. My wife missed the connection in July and was stuck in HEL for 24 hours. A planned 15 hours is more desirable.
Bags will be checked all the way. No problems there
Yes, you can leave the airport. No problems for UK passport holders.
