I'll head out of YQR after work on the 10th, get to Toronto, overnight with friends, and then head to MIA the next morning. Arrive at 10:30 or so, and turn around to come back on the 15:00 flight back to YYZ and thence to YQR. Home by about midnight on the 11th, and with -- according to my calculations -- 3670 status miles. I needed about 3400, so that should do fairly well.
Two AC agents had a good chuckle when they realized what I was doing. One caught on right away, and the other took a minute or so. Guess they hear a lot of it at this time of year.
Am contemplating using my last SSWU on the return MIA-YYZ-YQR portion as well. I don't think I'll have any int'l flying before March, so this may be a good opportunity to use it. Don't know what the service will be like on the MIA-YYZ portion at 15:00... but would assume a full meal.
Would really have preferred to go to SFO for this MR, but the miles weren't in it.
Thanks to all for the overseas and other suggestions. I made note of them for next year when I have more time to plan.

Perhaps I missed a change somewhere, but would not using your SSWU putting you in C give you way more miles than going in L or whatever you booked? I think you would need to use it to get the required points?
