My recent experience last month flying from JFK-SFO upgraded me from economy to business class two days before the flight and about 40 minutes before the flight upgraded me to first class. This is the first time that I got upgraded from economy all the way to first class on a 3 cabin aircraft. I wished they would upgrade me earlier to first class so that I could have take advantage of the dining service. Anyway, I guess this is one of the rarer occasion even with executive platinum status.

My wife and I, both EP, had a similar experience about two weeks ago: 321T, JFK-LAX. Upgraded Y-J two days or so before the flight. While waiting to board, the GA called us to the podium and asked for our boarding passes. She kept them and gave us new ones in F. During the flight I looked back and saw that J was full. Don't know about Y.
