Also dated content, but the express buses required you to pre-buy a higher fare and show a receipt, rather than just swiping a Metrocard. Which made no sense. (Especially since half the New Yorkers just boarded through the back door and didn't pay anyway).
I’ve done the Q70 from LGA to Roosevelt Ave a couple times. First time, I think I just showed my Metrocard to the driver. Second time, I didn’t have a Metrocard and just walked on. It was only pretty recently, when they made the bus free, that I discovered I was supposed to have paid in advance for the bus trip. I’m legally blind and have a white cane so maybe add it to the list of things I’ve inadvertently gotten away with because of that.
