Anecdotally I've noticed that if I check in on the app, and the hotel actually does anything with the info (preprints keys) I get what I booked and thats it. That is maybe about 30% of the time.

At this point I only do it if I know I'm going to be a late arrival and I want them to know I'm going to show up.
