Bereavement fares are more for emergency "I gotta be there tomorrow" than longer range optimized planning, so I'm not sure they'll help so much in this situation. Maybe it comes into play later on.

This seems more of a set your travel priorities to optimize your limited time with your parents situation. Hopefully, your plans have some flexibility.
