I just completed my third stay in this hotel, and I will not be returning.
The main issue that I had was that the hotel had booked a party in the ballroom, and gave me a room directly above it. I called reception before 22:00 to move rooms, and they claimed to be sold-out and refused to move me to a quiet room. I checked online and they still had 10 room types for sale for that night!
The party went on until midnight, and I had a long drive the next day so needed to rest.
The small things that I would not have cared much about without the above issue:
- No upgrades as Diamond Ambassador (they claimed to be sold-out when they were still selling rooms "The website must be wrong")
- Room booked for 3, but mostly set up for 2 (only 2 bathrobes, cups, coffee filters...)
- One of the beds had "sticky" sheets
- Some towels were stained and one had hair on it
- Served a glass of wine at the social hour in a dirty glass (lipstick stains)
- Only one soap dispenser that we needed to move between the bath and the shower
- Although I selected breakfast for free as welcome amenity, they added it to my bill, so I had to ask for it to be removed (easily done, but I would prefer not to have to check these things)
The asking price for this weekend was almost £900 for 2 nights, at that price point the experience was unacceptable.
Other than this, the hotel is nice, great communal areas, nicely specked rooms, friendly staff, and convenient for central Manchester. It has a good restaurant and the best breakfast that I have had in Manchester.
Upon check-out I complained only about the noise, and they promised me 20,000 points (not yet received), I would have checked-out early or asked for the night to be comped, but I was on a 2for1 voucher so it was already free. I didn't flag any of the other issues to them.
On my previous stay I also had issues, I didn't get served breakfast (after ordering twice and waiting for 40 minutes) and had some safety issues with the room (flagged after the first night, not resolved during the stay), plus as one poster above: the shower was too small do I didn't fit in it. That time they basically removed half of the bill and comped parking. So overall the hotel seems to be keen for service recovery after the fact rather than resolving problems as they happen.
P.S.: The reservation was before the IHG blackout that is ongoing, so that didn't impact the rooms available
