I just did this last month. I was comped from CO Silver to MVP status. The MVP status is good thru 12/2005. It took about 7-10 days to process the request. So, you will probably be okay. However, you will have to check your MyAlaskaAir account to see the new status -- they won't mail anything for several weeks.
