My friend and I both have AAA. Tried to add second person as authorized user and system wanted to charge anyway. Rep said it's bc AAA cards have to be from same state. I didn't try to argue bc trip was only two days. In the past, I've had them just add the person bc the rep didn't actually check the details of the card. We just showed out AAA cards and person was added.

Hertz should specify this in the fine print instead of saying on webpage that AAA members get to be added as authorized users for free.
